Cuestiones conceptuales en la investigación de indicadores sociales de bienestar infantil

Resumen

Se revisan una serie de consideraciones conceptuales básicas relativas a la noción de bienestar infantil, y de su medición mediante indicadores sociales. Se señala que el hecho de seleccionar una serie de indicadores suponiendo que configuran los aspectos más relevantes del concepto no resulta en absoluto una tarea neutra. Se analizan críticamente la tendencia a medir el bienestar sólo con indicadores negativos (enfermedad, bajos ingresos familiares, etc., ... ) así como la relevancia de los indicadores de contexto y el difícil equilibrio de la realidad. Se destaca que la información que proporcionan los indicadores viene justificada por su potencial para motivar y guiar la acción; es por ello que los buenos indicadores han de estar en consonancia con los objetivos explícitamente perseguidos

Abstract

Some basic conceptual considerations relating to the term of infant welfare are reviewed on this paper and its measurement through social indicators. We point to the fact that selecting a set of indicators and assuming that they form the most relevant aspects of the concept is not at the end a neutral task at all. The trend to measure welfare only through negative indicators (disease, low familiar income and so ..) such as the relevance of contextual indicators and the difficult balance of reality are analised. We emphasize that the information provided by the indicators is supported through its potentiality to motivate and lead the action, therefore good indicators must be in accordance with the explicitly pursued goals
